July 8-13, 12-3 pm
Create a battle bot with MKR LAB! We’ll use a microcontroller as the basis for our bots and we’ll brainstorm what we want to add (wedge, a crushing hammer, spinning “blade”) and what each will look like.
We’ll be using the BBC’s micro:bit microcontroller, which is part of the national computer science curriculum throughout the UK and in other parts of the world. We’ll connect motors, integrate a motor controller, and use custom 3D printed components to attach our motors to LEGOs. That allows each student to design (and easily redesign) their robot. Participants will be engaged with the physical building and robot aspect of the class while building solid coding skills and logical thinking. And of course we’ll battle! Kids can see for themselves what works and what doesn’t and redesign parts of their bots using the design process.
